ABOUT HING
Hing is a spice that is used for a variety of purposes. Hing is used for making pickles and is used extensively in cooking. It is used to making dishes like sambhar and dal, Hing is used in treating stomach disorders and cures people who are suffering from gas, bloating, acidity, constipation and improves stomach health. Asafoetida or hing makes for an indispensable part of the Indian cuisine, especially in curries and dals. Asafoetida comes from the dried sap extracted from the stem and roots of a plant species that belongs to the carrot family and is used as a spice. The resin is difficult to grate and is traditionally crushed between stones or with a hammer. Today, the most commonly available form is compounded asafoetida, a fine powder containing 30 percent asafoetida resin along with rice flour and gum arabic. In Ayurveda, ‘hing’ holds great importance for curing digestive problems and flatulence. It is usually boiled in water and reduced to paste, which is then smeared around the abdomen area to heal stomach and intestinal region.
